Some folks use drugs to get high - I prefer shooting ideas, and boy-o-boy did I get a buzz on after reading The Big Moo. While the whole book was great - 2-6 page minichapters that each provide a fast-acting hit of insight and ispiration - the one that sticks out for me is the manifesto “They Say I’m Extreme”, which I’m guessing is by Tom Peters. Here’s some of it:
They say, “We need more steady, loyal employees.”
I say: “We need more “freaks” who routinely tell those in change to take a flying leap… before it’s too late.”
They say, “Fast follower.”
I say, “Battered and bruised leader.”
They say they favour a “team that works and lives in harmony.”
I say, “Give me a racous brawl among the most creative people imaginable.”
Heck. The book is good. I pulled a copy out over drinks the other night and tossed it on the table - people couldn’t figure the title out, couldn’t figure out why I had the book - but after a few minutes of flipping through it - they “got it”. So go buy a copy already.
In related news, the winners have been decided for who gets copies of The Big Moo - and unfortunately one of them is Seth Godin, the editor of the book. I’m going to make an assumption and just give his copy to someone who will spread the word, rather than send his own book back. The winners will be getting their books in the mail.
